| Sociological Inquiry was introduced into the major to serve as a bridge between the introductory courses and more advanced courses in sociology. The course will explore the nature of the discipline, discuss the role sociology plays in the larger society, consider the predominant theories and methods used in the field, develop skills that will need for a successful academic career as a sociology major. | ||

| 인간은 다양하고 인간들이 모여 구성하는 사회도 다양하다. 또한 인간들이 사회 속에서 어우러져 만들어내는 역사와 역사의 해석방법도 다양하다. 인간과 사회의 역사·문화에 대해 탐구하는 것이 사회과학이라 할 때, 사회과학에서는 도대체 어떠한 방법으로 이와 같이 방대한 주제에 접근해 가는 것일까? 하는 문제를 고전과 현대의 여러 학자들의 도움을 받아 체계적으로 생각해 본다. | ||
| This course will introduce students to the principles of conducting, understanding and critically evaluating research？important components in understanding the strengths and limitations of research articles, conceptualizing the study of human behavior, and designing studies. Students will learn about reliability, validity, assessment, ethics and study design, and will be introduced to statistical techniques. Students will also get experience generating their own research ideas. | ||

| 21세기를 맞아 안으로는 민족통일의 문제가, 밖으로는 소수 민족문제가 첨예한 사회학적 쟁점으로 등장하고 있다. 민족, 민족주의, 민족국가의 문제와 함께 기존의 정치사회학의 관심사인 정치제도와 과정을 사회학적으로 접근하고 분석한다. | ||
| This course examines political processes, political institutions, and political man using sociological methods, and analyzes necessary political changes in response to social changes. | ||

| 인간사회의 기초는 인간이며 이들 인간이 모여 인구를 구성한다. 따라서 인구의 양과 질에 대한 이해는 사회를 이해하기 위한 첫걸음이라 할 수 있다. 또한 사회가 유지되기 위해서는 사회성원 즉 인구의 재생산이 필요한데 이를 담당하는 기관 혹은 장치가 가족이라 할 수 있다. 한국사회는 최근 인구와 가족(예를 들어, 저출산과 이혼증가)에서 심대하면서도 급격한 변화를 경험하고 있다. 본 강좌는 인구와 가족에 대한 사회학적 시각과 현실적인 이슈들을 다룬다. | ||
| This course introduces the field of demography, which examines the growth and characteristics of human populations. It also provides an overview of our knowledge of three fundamental population processes: fertility, mortality, and migration. We cover marriage, cohabitation, marital disruption, aging, and population and environment. In each case we examine historical trends. We also discuss causes and consequences of recent trends in population growth, as well as the current demographic situation in developing and developed countries. | ||

| 이 과목은 사회학의 기본 개념에 대한 충실한 이해를 통해 사회현상에 대한 비판적 탐구를 시도한다. 계급불평등, 국가, 도시와 일상생활, 가족과 성, 세계화 등과 같은 현대사회의 주요 쟁점을 사회학적 시각으로 바라보는 훈련을 통해, 역사적이고 구조적인 인식과 문화적인 비교를 통해 사회현상을 비판적으로 바라본다는 사회학적 상상력을 구체적인 사회현상의 이해에 적용해 보는 과목이다. | ||
| This course examines society critically, drawing from the core concepts in sociology. It explores selected issues in the contemporary research and theory with a commitment to social and economic justice. | 사회조사의 유용성과 문제점에 대한 균형 잡힌 감각을 함양하고 사회조사를 하는데 요구되는 여러 사항들에 대한 지식을 배운다. 이는 연구 질문, 가설설정, 표본추출, 측정도구작성 등으로 구분되며 각 단계별 고려사항을 이해한다. 또한 기존의 논문들에 대한 비판적 독해를 통해 사회조사를 이용한 논문의 글쓰기 기초를 배운다. | ||

| The course examines major trend of cultural studies. Since the early 1970s, the sociology of culture has been virtually “reinvented”. The course is concerned with the “new” sociology of culture which is not a field per se; rather it consists of a number of distinct and independent subfields such as science, knowledge, religion, media, popular culture, and the arts as well as culturally oriented approaches to, for example, history, politics, organization, stratification, and interpersonal behavior. | ||

| This course investigates various socio-cultural issues on the cyberspace, focusing on such issues as self and identity, trust and social capital, social relationship and community, culture, information management and sharing, privacy and surveillance, collective actions and social change, and so on. | This course presents a general introduction to social stratification theory and research. As such, the aim is for extensive coverage of the field rather than intensive treatment of a few selected topics. The major areas of consideration include : ⑴ definition and measurement of social class; ⑵ social stratification in Korean society ; ⑶ study of power structures; ⑷ class differences in life styles and life chances; and ⑸ social mobility. | ||

| In this course, students are expected to develop their own idea about the meaning of social change. | The course deals with comparative methods in the analysis of social structure and the contributions of the main sociological schools on the issue. The main topics are public social welfare programs with particular reference to poverty, health, education, and housing. | 이 강의는 크게 두 부분으로 나누어진다. 영상과 사회의 관계에 대한 이론과 분석이 한 부분이고, 다른 한 부분은 영상자료를 통해 한국사회를 사회학적으로 재구성하고 이해하는 방법을 실습하는 것이다. 문자대신 영상물로 사회현상을 기록하고 문제화하는 법을 배우며 사회적 쟁점의 영상화와 사회적 쟁점이 된 영상물의 분석과 논의에 역점을 둔다. | ||
| The purpose of this course is to explore the use of videos and films as a social science research tool. The course will combine lectures, slide and film viewing, readings and discussion on visual sociological research and on documentary videos and films. | The goal for each student is to find a research question to guide his or her overall research design. The course walks students through the steps involved in survey research: finding funding, writing a grant proposal, sampling, questionnaire design, coding, cleaning, and data analysis. | ||

| 세계적으로 표준화된 사회학내의 세부전공 분류표에 의하면 약 40~50가지의 분야로 나뉜다. 그 중 우리 학과가 전공 선택과목으로 정기적으로 제공하는 강좌 수는 20여개 정도이다. 이 과목에서는 나머지 20~30가지의 세부전공들(예컨대 법, 경제, 환경, 의료, 군대, 예술, 지식, 여가, 지역, 과학기술, 범죄사회학 등을 들 수 있다) 중 개설당시의 시대적 학문경향, 학생들의 요구, 이들을 수용해낼 수 있는 전임교수 또는 시간강사의 담당가능성 등을 고려하여 매 학기마다 바뀌는 다양한 전공강의를 제공하여 본 학과 교육과정의 유연성을 최대화한다. | ||
